How Microsuction is performed
Microsuction is performed by using a small, gentle suction device to safely remove ear wax from the ear canal.
The procedure begins with a thorough examination using a magnifying device to clearly view the ear canal. The specialist then carefully inserts the suction device into the ear, removing the wax with precision while avoiding contact with the sensitive ear drum and surrounding tissues.
This method is quick, comfortable, and highly effective, providing immediate relief from symptoms caused by ear wax build up.
How Irrigation is performed
Irrigation is performed by gently flushing the ear canal with a controlled stream of warm water to dislodge and remove ear wax.
The procedure starts with the patient tilting their head to allow the water to flow easily into the ear canal. Using a specialized irrigation device, the clinician carefully directs the water into the ear, which loosens the wax and allows it to flow out. The process is repeated until the ear canal is clear.
Irrigation is a safe and effective method, often providing immediate relief from discomfort caused by ear wax buildup.

How to keep your ears clean
While a severe buildup of ear wax should be addressed by a qualified audiologist or ENT specialist, there are steps you can take at home to safely clean your ears of unwanted wax.
Applying olive oil-based ear drops can soften and break down ear wax over time. Use a spray bottle to apply the drops while lying down to ensure they spread deep and evenly in the ear canal.
As the ear wax softens, it will gradually move from the ear canal to the ear opening, where it will usually dry up and fall out. This process is often aided by chewing and jaw movements.
This is the safest method for cleaning your ears at home, but if your ears are severely blocked and you can’t hear anything, it’s important to book an appointment for professional ear wax removal.

When to see your GP
If you experience persistent ear discomfort, severe ear pain, or a significant loss of hearing, it is crucial to see your GP.
Additionally, if you notice symptoms such as dizziness, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), or fluid discharge from your ear, these could indicate a more serious condition that requires medical attention.
While minor ear wax build up can often be managed at home, these symptoms suggest it’s time for a professional evaluation to prevent further complications and ensure your ear health is properly managed.
